Queued&A: Alice et Moi

Meet Alice et Moi.

"My name is Alice et Moi, and I am a French artist who loves music and sings pop songs in French! People often say that I am a bad girl with a soft heart."

How did you get into music?

I’ve always loved music. I come from a family where everyone likes music, but no one was doing it professionally, and none of my friends either. I was doing studies in literature, philosophy, and political sciences, and everything seemed to be okay. However, I felt like I wasn’t at the right place. I had this growing feeling inside of me. I wanted to do music, and I wanted it to be my whole life. So, I just looked for professional artists on my social networks, and through many encounters, hard work, and strong will, I decided to produce my first EP. I contacted festivals, etc. I really started from scratch and just never gave up. I am still trying.

How did you come up with the name “Alice et Moi?”

Since I was I child, I always felt this duality. Sometimes, I can be so social and open and strong, and sometimes I am such an introvert, thinking in my room, hiding to write songs. Being Alice et Moi (which means Alice and Me) was a way to accept the two sides of me.

Talk to me about your latest single “Je suis fan,” and the meaning or significance behind it.

I wrote “Je suis Fan” two years ago. It’s about the obsession you can have for someone, especially through social media, where you can spy on everyone. It can make you even crazier because you feel like you can see everything, even if it’s not true. In the music video, I wanted to be the one who is seen. As an artist and a woman, people always want to see more and trash you for showing too much. This video was a way for me to control my image, while showing how crazy people can become when they spy or are spied on.

Can we expect a new single or project anytime soon?

Yes, my album is coming soon, and many more surprises. Follow me on Instagram, and you will have all the info you need, and more!

What are your plans and goals as an artist for 2021?

2021 is the year of the release of my first album ever! I want to express myself and share it with others. It’s a complicated period for everyone, and I hope we can turn it into something good.

Which of your songs is your favorite or most special to you?

All of my songs are specials to me because I make a lot of songs and only share the ones that are the most special, honest and true to what I feel.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

That’s such a difficult question! I loved David Bowie and Vanessa Paradis when I was a child, but then I discovered rap and electronic music. I love Tyler the Creator, Childish Gambino, Kali Uchis, Rosalia, etc. When I started in the music world, I discovered the French group La Femme and fell in love with all of them. There are so many different influences, and that’s what I like about music today, the diversity of talent!

When and how did you learn how to speak English?

I always loved English. In school, all of my classes were in English. I went to an English campus when I was 14 years old, and I’ve also watched so many TV series in English that it came to me really fast, hahaha! It’s a great way to understand everyone. There are so many good English writers, too.

How has the global pandemic impacted your artistry?

Because of the global pandemic, my album is late, all of my concerts were canceled, and my whole life changed. I miss the adrenaline of being on stage, the love from other people, the traveling. It’s hard to find inspiration because I feel like life is dead, and I am usually inspired by people. I don’t want to complain; I know how hard it can be for some people that are isolated. I have family in the restauration. I went through some personal struggles too because of all this, but I’m hoping for a better future. I think we can beat this. We can be stronger. When life goes back to normal, it will be magical. I know that so many artists are supporting each other. We’re trying to see the beauty in these hard moments. I even made two of the songs for my album during the first quarantine with my own pans doing the drums, haha! It gave the song cool new vibes! I think we can all make it if we still see the good and the creativity in life!
