The ‘Proposal’ from Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock has got acceptance from movie audiences, as it succeeded to grab $34.1m and opened as the #1 movie of the weekend.
In the movie Bullock has been presented as a ruthless publishing executive who forced her assistant (Reynolds) into a fake marriage to avoid deportation to her native Canada.
Warner Bros. recently released comedy The Hangover was at No.1 for quite some time, but it has slipped to the second place with $26.9m, and Sandra Bullock’s Proposal seems to catch more and more fire among the audience.
While the Disney’s animation Up is on No.3 position with $21.3m and Sony’s Year One was at fourth spot with $20.2m.
“June can be called a comedy month at cinemas, as Comedy seemed to rule the things,” says Paul Dergarabedian, who is a box-office analyst at Hollywood.com.
Whatever Works is Woody Allen’s latest comedy that got an impressive start in its limited release and hauled nearly $280,720 in nine different theaters with an average of $31,191 per cinema.
Some other comedies also did well on the box office during June, a month often reckoned a downer for Hollywood.
