MY Life in Ruins (2009)

MY Life in RuinsWhen watching My Life in Ruins, you would notice a couple of such characters as reckon themselves quite funny, but in actual they are not as they think they are. The same can be said about the movie, as you would find it forced and flat in an attempt of a cheerful and occasionally screwball comedy with a tincture of romance. The movie is also being touted as My Big Fat Greek Wedding in which Nia Vardalos was in lead role. Though she is also playing a leading in this movie too, it can’t be reckoned a true blend of family sentiment and comedy just like its predecessor.

The movie revolves around a tour of well-known ruins in Greece (as the name of the movie suggests). Vardalos (Georgia) is playing the role of a former history instructor who was on temporary solution job that has extended even for years. She doesn’t like to do this job and seems quite disturb because of her job, as she is reckoned as a second class tourists and every such thing that doesn’t exist for more than 1500 years. She is told by her boss and other colleagues that she is no more in her Kefi (Greek word) that tells about the ability of annoying people.

Irv, a widower tourist joins “you are too uptight” Greek chorus; Irv is one of those stereotypes tourists who have been traveling through Greece under Georgia guidance.  She often deals with dorky American, unintelligible Australian and sexy Spanish divorces and an old lady who often steals other tourists’ stuff and an untrustworthy tour guide who decided to torment her in quitting.

Irv appears as a magical powerful character that gives out simple wisdom along with Morgan Freeman white Midwestern version and it can be seen that Dreyfuss had enough charm pulling off it mostly, but you may get dissatisfied the way storyline of Irv is resolved and wondered if it was scripted originally or not. Donald Petrie, the director of the movie, seemed to do things quite impressively.
